Soil Science and Agriculture Chemistry

The Department had a humble beginning as a small section in 2008.

The Department is ensuring support to other disciplines of Agriculture with facilities like automated N- analyser (Kel-plus), UV – Vis spectrometers, Flame photometer, etc.

Presently seven UG courses (19+8 credits) for B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture degree are being offered. In addition to these courses, the staff of the department is handling the courses of the Department of Biochemistry.

Teaching

The department is offering seven UG courses. Laboratory manuals were prepared for two UG courses.

The department has formulated innovative methods for conducting practical classes for UG.

Besides teaching the department is supporting and disseminates technical information to the agricultural department and farming community on soil and plant quality, natural resource management, and management of problematic soils.

Department is analysing soil and water samples for College farm needs and also for the farming community.

Department started a new vermicompost unit and is being operated.

Department is supporting the farming community in addressing soil, and water problems through analysis and interpretation of soil test data.
