Plant Pathology

The Department of Plant Pathology, Agricultural College, Rajamahendravaram was started in the year 2008. The Department offers courses to the undergraduate programme as per V Deans Committee recommendations.

Significances of the Department:

The Department is led by Dr. S. Krishnam Raju, Professor & Head (Plant Pathology) who has got 18 years of research experience and four and half years of teaching.

The students who passed out from the College has got M.Sc (Plant Pathology) admissions in different states of the country. The first batch of the students of the college are well placed and a few of them have joined in the University as Scientist (Plant Pathology).

The students are provided with JRF classes and material needed to appear for entrance examination.

Facilities available in the Department:

There is a laboratory to deal practical classes to the undergraduate students. It is equipped with microscopes, hot air oven, autoclave, laminar airflow chamber, incubator, freezer, refrigerator, colony counter, haemocytometers, electronic balance, magnetic stirrer and all the glassware for media preparation and maintenance of fungal and bacterial cultures.

There are specimen jars in which diseases plant samples are preserved for use in the practical classes. 

The Department maintains herbaria of diseased samples of both field and horticultural Crops. Fungal cultures viz. Rhizoctonia solani, sclerotium rolfsii and Helminthosporium oryzae are being maintained in the laboratory.

There is sufficient land in the college farms to carry field demonstration pertaining to Plant Pathology practical classes.
