The department was started at the inception of the college with the view to teach functional English to I Year B. Sc (Ag) students keeping in view the rural background of most of the students and the medium of instruction ‘Telugu’ they received up to intermediate level, with the objective to perfect the student’s ability to handle English for all practical purposes.
The department has been providing all possible assistance to cater to the needs of the students and to make them excel in their communication skills realizing the importance of the principle that ‘Effective communication pays always effective dividends’.
At the request of user agencies with the view of preparing our students to improve their proficiency in English to meet the various growing and indispensable communicative challenges in the present day competitive world of advanced science and technology and international trade and commerce, Engl-101 course with 1+1 credits was restructured and is being offered to first-year students.
The theory component is designed to teach the students the techniques of writing science articles and the practical component is structured to familiarize the procedures of conducting meetings, seminars, symposia, and group discussions besides improving their drafting skills.
Presently the department is offering one course Engl-101 with (1+1) credits each for I B. Sc (Hons.) Agriculture. The department uses audio-visual aids like lingua-phone cassettes, television, and charts to improve skills in Spoken English for undergraduate students.
